Melville Church Cemetery Workday, 2020

The trustees of Melville Church Cemetery sincerely thank the twelve folk who arrived at 8:30 am on Saturday, July 25th, 2020 to work on the maintenance of this beautiful graveyard.  Volunteers from Kincardine and Lower Kintore cooperated to right tipped gravestones, fill in sunken graves, pull ancient stumps, trim bushes and fill and re-seed spots needing attention.  All brought tools and one person arrived with a tractor which helped in pulling stumps and carrying buckets of loam where needed.

What a great job done so cheerfully!

A big SHOUT OUT to all these caring community members from Trustees Rick Murch, Roy Grierson and Dean Mitchell.

from Roy Grierson.

Christmastime in the Scotch Colony

Hi,

Kinley LaFrance

Here is the list of events in December.

• Sat. Dec. 14, 6:00 pm – games night @ Burns Hall for all ages. Bring a game or two or three, a munchie to share, & wear a Christmas sweater if you have one. If you want to participate in the “Yankee swap”, bring something from home that you don’t want anymore, or have too many of already (NOTHING NEW!) and wrap it in newspaper or old wrapping paper. It can be useful or funny.

• Sun. Dec. 15, 11:00 am – regular service @ Upper Kent United Church (Rte. 105 below Muniac, on left going downriver)

• Sun. Dec. 22, 11;00 am – combined church service @ Saint James United in Andover (beside Nissens’ Market)

• Sun. Dec. 22, 6:00 pm – Christmas concert @ the Burns Hall, annual event since 1911. You may perform (both kids and adults) or be in the audience 🙂 We’ll have a carol sing at the end of the concert and then socializing time with tea and cookies (whatever people bring for a little snack) Please let me know if your kids are coming so that Carolyn can “do up” enough bags of candy. Also, please let me know if you plan to do anything in the concert so that I can semi-organize a programme. I can add other things that night.

•Tues. Dec. 24, 6:00 pm – Christmas Eve service @ Upper Kent United Church

•Sun, Dec. 29, 11:00 am – combined service @ Saint James United Church in Andover

All welcome! Please pass the word… Thanks! Darlene

Community Potluck, 3 Nov 2019, 5pm, Burns Hall

We’re having a community potluck on November 3rd at the Burns Hall, Kincardine. We’ll open the doors at 4:30, and eat at 5 PM. Tea, coffee, pickles, butter, rolls provided. Bring a salad, main dish or dessert.

An informal music jam will commence after supper. Bring your musical instrument – voice, fiddle, guitar, etc. We’ll have  a piano there.

All welcome! You don’t have to be a resident of the Scotch Colony to attend. This is a fundraiser for Burns Hall maintenance and other local charities. We will have a free-will donation box at the door. 🙂

A supper at Burns Hall.
